Rated ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity Icu of molded case circuit breakers
There are two indicators for the breaking capacity of circuit breakers: rated ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity Icu and rated operating short-circuit breaking capacity Ics. Ics, as a characteristic parameter, does not simply consider the breaking capacity of the circuit breaker, but rather serves as a breaking indicator that ensures its normal operation after breaking several short circuit faults. For molded case circuit breakers, there should be sufficient Icu to break the short-circuit current and trip the switch. According to regulations, the Ics of the molded case circuit breaker is considered qualified as long as it exceeds 25% Icu. At present, the Ics of circuit breakers in the market are mostly between (50% -75%) Icu, so for distribution systems with low power supply requirements, only Icu needs to be considered.
